My Wall of Fire

Revelation 1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

He is the beginning, the dawn of time itself.  Before the sun, before the sky, before the earth and its creatures began, He was and is the almighty God.

Friend of Sinners
Matthew 11:19 “The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.”

Though I sin, repent, and fall back into sin again, He is my friend.  No matter how He may be perceived by others, He is with me.  Though my reputation is dirty and His spotless, He is not ashamed of me.  Though I’m prone to sin, He sins not, but is my steadfast friend.

Showers Upon the Earth
Psalm 72:6 “May he be like rain that falls on the mown grass, like showers that water the earth!”

When I am thirsty, parched for wisdom and withered down to my roots, He is the cool shower that refreshes me.  His strength seeps into my dry bones and revives my soul.

The Bread of Life
John 6:35 “Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”

In my greatest hunger, for love, for peace, for life, He is the bread that satisfies me eternally.  It is the taste of His glory only that satisfies me and I crave Him everyday.

The Lifter of My Head
Psalm 3:3 “But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.”

In my greatest sorrows, in my greatest pains, when I’m discouraged and downcast, He oh so gently and lovingly lifts my head to see His face, to see light, to see joy.  He raises my spirit to share in His glory!

A Refuge from the Storm
Psalm 57:1 “Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by.”

When life deluges its trials upon me, when I feel my weakness, when I can not withstand the storms, He is my refuge, my shelter in whom I find peace.  When destruction threatens me, He wraps Himself around me and in Him I am safe.

Matthew 1:2 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel”
Not only is He God, but He is God with us!  Never, not even for a single moment, am I alone, for He is with me, protecting me, loving me, guiding my every step.  Even when He is silent, He is there, and His presence alone reassures my heart.

My Maker, My Potter
Proverbs 22:2 “The rich and the poor meet together; the Lord is the maker of them all.”
Isaiah 64:8 “But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.”

He is the creator that formed me; from my skin and bones to the emotions of my heart and the thoughts of my mind.  He crafted me with great skill and precision and who is there for me to trust more than my original designer and maker Himself!

Psalm 23:3 “He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”

In my brokenness and my mistakes; when I have sinned and when I am tainted, He restores my soul.  When I have failed everyone around me, He restores relationships.  When I have wandered far from His will and wisdom, He restores me to His path of righteousness.

Isaiah 9:6 “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

When I am at a loss for words, clueless to the ways of life, and in need of instruction, He is my wonderful counselor, who gives me wisdom and encouragement.  He guides me to make decisions and speak words that bring Him glory.

Wall of Fire
Zechariah 2:5 “And I will be to her a wall of fire all around, declares the Lord, and I will be the glory in her midst.’”

Oh the words of the Lord alone are sufficient for my soul!  He is my wall of fire on every side and He is my glory!

Revelation 1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Not only is He the beginning, but He is also the end.  He is always mighty, always my friend, my shower upon the earth, my bread of life, the lifter of my head, my refuge from the storm, Immanuel, my maker and potter, my restorer, my counsellor, always my wall of fire.  He is the one and only God who loves me and whom I love.
